I lived in and around La Ceiba for a total of 5 weeks.  I started with 1 week at the Spanish school while doing a home stay with a 90 year old woman who was quite deaf.  Then I volunteered at Las Sonrisas de Los Ninos, a small daycare about a 45 minute bus ride from La Ceiba in El Cacao, for 4 weeks.  The first week of this I stayed in La Ceiba and commuted 5 days a week.  Then for 1 week I stayed at Casa Roselyn, a cute little hotel/hostel near the mountains with a swimming pool and short hike to a waterfall, closer to Cacao.  This time was fun and relaxing and felt a bit like camping because there was no city or much to do nearby.  Tom and I (the other volunteer) played a lot of cards, went for a cool swim most mornings, did some hiking, got bitten by many mosquitoes, enjoyed watching the fireflies at night, and eating with Jesus (our host-dad).  Then I returned to living in La Ceiba at Dona Petra's, again with Tom, for another 2 weeks of commuting to El Cacao.  I also took a few weekend trips during this time.  One weekend I went to Tela with Jeanne and Patricia, and another weekend I went to Sambo Creek and Cayos Cochinos, the most beautiful place I've ever seen.
