Celebrity  Cruises operates out of  Vancouver. The confusion at the docking terminal was the only downside to the whole experience and it's worth getting through, since the cruise itself is superb. A new ship, excellent staff, wonderful food and amenities, lots to do on the boat. We got a room with a balcony, which is what you should do to get the maximum benefit from the trip. There is so much to see from your private vantage point while you sip a drink and watch the scenery slide by on the inside passage up the coast towards Alaska with mountains on both sides. Go to the front of the ship when it reaches the narrowest passage and marvel that a huge vessel can squeeze through such a close fit. Marvelous mountain scenery on the fiord that leads into Skagway. Skagway was the best part of the cruise. Go through the town, and step back into the atmosphere of the gold rush of 1898. The trip on the White Pass and Yukon Railroad, following the path taken by the miners up over the mountains, should not be missed (see a related review). The other highlight was the glacier. The ship goes right into the fiord up close and you can watch and listen as huge chunks of ice fall into the sea. One night while we were having dinner some dolphins followed along beside the boat and a whale breeched. The people at all the tables on that side of the ship jumped up and shouted in amazement as this magnificent creature put in a show. A memorable cruise. Take good clothes for the formal dinners, though you can eat elsewhere if you prefer that. The cabin was perfect, the staff was friendly and professional. Enjoy the luxury. You deserve it.

A memorable cruise starting in Vancouver

Take good clothes for the formal dinners, and casual summer clothes, but also warm clothes for the glaciers and mountains. See our pictures for some ideas. If you dock at 7 a.m. (the boat is well run, you'll probably be right on time), you'll have lots of time to get to the airport for your flight out of Vancouver. It's a wonderful trip. Enjoy it. Take lots of pictures, and tell realtravel about it afterwards.

Hi, We're taking the same cruise in June. What kind of clothes should we take? I assume it's pretty cold both on and off the ship. Our return flight out of Vancouver was moved up to 12:10 p.m. We are suppose to dock at 7 a.m. Is this enough time to make our flight? Thanks. Marie Sue
