From 3000 Miles Just to Learn... in Bahia Blanca, Argentina on Nov 11 '06
Bahia Blanca is nothing but a dust storm and the largest naval base in South America. Whooo! at least it doesnt have zombies in it. We are only here as a stopover on our way to Trelew which is right next to the national reserve with the largest Magellic Penguin breeding site outside of Antartica. So in about two days we will be standing on a beach chaseing penguins trying to get two into our backpack to introduce into california. Everyone can take a number for who wants the first pairs of offspring. Its also the site where Attenbourough filmed the Killer whales beaching themselves to eat sea lions off the beach. Hopefully we get to see it happen, but they claim it only happens feb-april. Next time maybe or maybe our luck will be with us and they will want to put on a show for the californians.
We saw the rest of Buenos Aires after we got back from Uruguay and went to the Palermeo which looked like westwood and then down to the Boca, a more working class neighborhood, which actually looked a lot like south street in Philly. Its probably the italian immigrants. all the houses are differnet colors and theres funky art and Maradona (soccer player who beat england in the world cup in the 70s) statues everywhere. I also got more compliments on my cut off Misfits shirt than i would have expected. BsAs loves the misfits, its official. Buneos was an awesome city, the metro was great and easy and we had a great time. Id go back. Oh and we also got kicked out of a cab. We asked the driver why the taximetro wasnt reset to 0 and he yelled at us and told us to get out. We just walked back a block and got another cab, but it was pretty funny. Apparantly all the taxis have a base charge of 2 pesos, thats all he had to say. oh well.

Thats it, we are pushing south for two more days and then north again to the lake district resort town of Bariloche for a vacation from our trip, its supposed to be like tahoe but with bigger mountins and a nice lake. Then the slow but long trek all the way up the andes to mendoza, to chile and home eventually.
