Today I hiked 15 miles to a gorgeous waterfall. One of the downfalls of going by yourself is getting lost in which I did on the main road. But after talking to the locals they were more than happy enough to direct me in the right way. The hike down the trail was absolutely amazing, I saw a poisonous colorful frog, one of the biggest bumblebees ever (close to the size of a small American finch), various birds of bright colors, and thankfully no snakes. But believe me the snakes were in the back of my mind the whole time.

The hike was very surreal and made me feel so alive. My senses highlighted times ten due to the amazing experience of being isolated by myself in the tropical rain forest of Northern Costa Rica for the first time. I walked very slow and took in every new sound and sight. The flies, Bees, Wasps, birds, all created a different sound I was not used to hearing back home. When traveling by yourself in such remote areas you constantly question every step. But you have to believe in yourself to push on and know you're going in the right direction.

After about a mile in I turned a corner of rainforest and heard the thundering power of the river. Immediately I knew I had made the right turns and my thoughts settled into a place of calmness. The closer I got to the waterfall I could see an opening to the river. The long hike made up for the beautiful waterfall that presented itself before my eyes. With no one around I immediately stripped down and took a nice cool dip in the pool below the waterfall. This was a memory I'll never forget as I got to discover this waterfall just from a small tip from Leona my gracious host. It's not often you can visit a waterfall and not have a single soul around.

Tonight I pound down a huge cheap dinner at The Restaurante Tia Rosita in preparation for the next big journey to Trinidad (right at the border of Nicaragua). Tia Rosita has been a savior for my much needed hungry belly. The food portions are massive and tasty. I've been sticking to the fried rice platters.......umm good!
