We spent a rainy day absorbing the historic site of Port Arthur. It was only the extreme, and second offenders that served their term at this place. Interestingly the first boat load of tourists came to visit this place only one year after it's abolition as a convict settlement in 1856. We visited the isle of the dead the burial place for convict and free alike, even in death the social distinction remained. The kids really enjoyed themselves and even got to try on some leg irons.
