Assisi, the town of Saint Francis (or as the locals call him, San Francesco) was the most amazing place I have ever been in my life. The architecture, the people, the large monastery atop a hill, overlooking rolling fields of sunflowers and small villas...
I could go on forever.
The architecture, the people, the large monastery atop a hill, overlooking rolling fields of sunflowers and small villas...
Not the mention, this town is the home to the famous Patron Saint of Nature and Wildlife.
After a brief introduction from a monk, whose name has unfortunately slipped my mind, our group was taken on a tour and shown the living quarters and the tomb of Saint Francis. After our tour and educational session on Francis of Assisi, we were let loose to explore the town.
The architecture was brilliant and everything was in bloom. The town appeared the be the most welcoming and quaint place I've ever stepped foot in. All of the local residents (mostly monks and nuns, and a few shopkeepers) were extremely friendly and encouraged conversation even if we couldn't speak the same language.
My time in Assisi was short for my own liking, but I am so excited and grateful that I was able to visit such a peaceful, holy place.
