Sunday, February 4th 2007 (Picton “Marlborough Sounds” Ferry to Paekakariki)

Civilization...yuck! Not used to full hyway's yet!

Nice day for a Ferry ride! Since we are booked on the 1pm Ferry we took full advantage of sleeping in & cooking a full breakfast before exploring the Portside Aquarium (fairly lame!), & surroundings. Well after a breathtaking trip thru the Marlborough Sounds, we certainly know where to spend more time when we visit NZ again! I’m sure that you could spend weeks exploring all the hidden inlets & cosy bays and still not see them all…outstanding coastal community!! After a recommendation from a local traveller that we meet on the ferry, we did not see any reason to spend any time in Wellington & decided to point the caravan north and make our way to the small west coast community of Paekakariki. Opps I managed to freak the ferry dude out as well as a few NZ drivers as I left the ferry driv’n Canadian!! Once we arrived at our Paekakariki Holiday Park, set up camp & made a call home to Mom and Dad. We sat down with a cold beer and a map of the North Island, it did not take long to realize that with only 10 days to explore & get to Auckland for our flight to Australia we are going to have to leave here in the AM & prioritize our Northern NZ adventure.
