Crete provided us a bit of time to relax again.  We got to do some things that we haven't done in a while, like hike!

It was such a relief to actually get down to some semi strenuous exercise as we have been without this for quite some time.  There is no better place to do it than the Gorge on the south of Crete.  The first name completely slips my mind at the moment.  Anyways some massive gorge in the jungle part of southern Crete.  The hike provided several amazing views both of the valley and of the huge rock faces that we found ourselves engulfed in for most of the hike.  We also came across lots of small settlements along the trail of, well basically "Hill People" - if you will.  We left for the hike catching the 7am bus and got back to the hostel at around 930pm. The bad part about this was that the hike only took us just over four hours, the rest was transportation, mostly getting back.  I will throw in some pictures of the hike when I get a chance.

The next day we just took it easy and basically spent al day playing beach volleyball on one of the near by beaches.  After meeting some German couple, the guy reminding me of Arnold S., provided us with some solid defensive playing and also a real ball since we had bought the cheapest one we could find.  That night we went out with a bunch of people we had met at the hostel and ended up at a bar on the beach teaching the bartender different shots and one of the Australians we were with being a bartender ended up making some behind the bar herself.

Over all Crete was a blast and a great little break before the warm weather ended for fall.

Hello, A friend and I are hoping to get over to Greece in late September this year. We are limited on time however and want to make sure we can at least catch the highlights in Greece. Is Rethymo a must see? It looks pretty, but from my beginning research it is almost overwhelming trying to figure out what to check out in Greece! We're interested in the beaches of course, the greek ruins of course and a good cultural experience and some nightlife of course! Any ideas would be much appreciated...thanks!
