Our dear friends

As for everyone, these last few days have been very hard for us. We learnt about the terrorist attacks just as we landed here in Uzbekistan. We luckily have had CNN, BBC and both German and Russian NewsTV here in Tashkent and have been able to follow the tragic events.

Where we currently are and will be for the next two weeks it is very safe and will remain so even if the US and its allies will attack a country such as Afghanistan. We will reevaluate our future travel plans at that time, with of course our safety being the main factor in our decisions.

Since we will be travelling for the next few weeks through 'less/differently developed' cities such as Khiva, Buchara, Samarkand, Bishkek and Kashgar we will not be able though to stay in touch by e-mail or trip journal, so don't expect to hear from us for a while. We will try to stay in touch with both sets of parents by telephone.

Thanks again also for all the e-mails during these last few days. While we are fairly well informed it has helped to hear about how all of these things have affected everyone.

love,

Thomas/Jenifer
