We took the night train down from Serbia to Podgorica (the slightly bland and concrete captial of Montenegro) and then another little train to the more apetizing Kotor. Its a very attractive city, lots of white buildings that have this greek essence about them. The mountains that surround the town are really sharp, adn when the mist rolls over the top in the morning it sort of feels like how you'd imagine pompeii to be in its hayday. Except now there were cash machines and German tourists.

The guidebook said Kotor was like a smaller version of Dunbrovink. Its seems true, its a walled city that seems really small but is big enough that you can happily get yourself lost during a wander.

There was a really intriguing  fortress at the top of this mountain that we felt like we had to climb. It looks despertaly high from the bottom but the climb only took about half an hour. I found myself whistling the Minas Tirith theme turn from Lord of the Rings, because for some reason this mountain castle reminded me of that. Unfortuantly we came on the same day that a big french cruiseliner came into the harbour so the whole walk up was filled with french people asking us questions we didn't understand.

We went for a swim on their beach, harbour thing. We kept looking over our shoulders to make sure some child hadn't stolen our bags, but a waiter in a resturant later on told us that Montengero is almost ridiculously safe.

We wanted to get a boat to Dubrvonik, anything other than a sweaty bus. But we had come at the wrong time so it had to be the bus anyway.
