Zanzibar was our first stop on our trip to Tanzania.  We spent four days there including the Millenium.  They had a wonderful New Year's Eve party out by the pool!  It was a beautiful island filled with history.  Stone Town is the old city and most of the culture of the island can be found here.

We visited the Peace Memorial Museum and saw the many beautiful mosques and bazaars and visited the out door market which was very interesting.  You get to see all the local foods, fish, poultry and handcrafts.

We also took a day trip to Prison Island where we went to visit the giant tortoises and saw where the slaves where kept in the old detention center part of which still stands.
