By not sleeping Wednesday night, I managed to get everything packed and ready in time to get to JFK. My family took me out to a diner for my last American breakfast, and then my mom and I made it in record'breaking time to JFK. The flight to Miami was uneventful. I had a layover of about a half an hour, which meant that I really only had a layover of about 15 minutes. I got off at Terminal A and had to haul ass to Terminal D, only to learn that by the time I got to Terminal D, the flight to Quito was delayed two hours. No big deal, since I met a lovely Ecuadorian couple and their son who approached me for a translation of the  announcement about the flight delay. They were super nice people, cordial, polite, friendly, and very interested in my background and my future plans.  They gave me their Quito phone number right away and asked that I contact them when I got a chance. What a great first impression of Ecuador.

I got to Quito successfully, but my luggage didn´t, so I had to deal with all the paperwork necessary to track my pack from Miami. The bottom line was that I would have to return the next day for the next flight from Miami which would arrive at 9 pm. Needless to say, I was dirty, tired, and felt totally gross after traveling from 9 in the a.m. until 2 a.m. the next day. But I just had to suck it up until Friday night.
