CYMRAEG ISOD

ENGLISH VERSION HERE:

"We headed out to see the sunset and to see if we could spot Tina Turner on the back of a moped"

As mentioned in the last entry, we had booked our tour to Alice Springs in Adelaide, and after parking the 'Strumpf' outside Marnies parents house (very kind Ozzy friend we made on the Whitsundays), we were picked up by our tour guide Sandy (who at first looked real respectable, but turned out to be a moony pulling lunatic!).  We then drove north, stopping at the Flinders Ranges and spotted shingle back lizzards and loads of wild emus.  We also got to see our first living kangaroos by ther side of the road (generally the ones we've seen before have been...er...'sleeping'!).  We spent the first night in what used to be a  TB Hospital, but now was converted into outback lodgings. We sank a few bevies around the campfire and got to konw the rest of the gang, which ranged from 18 year old guys just out of school, to a 34 year old former bar owner - a snob when it came to coffee (only joking Vinny!).

Next day we made our way north and stopped off at Talc Alfs place.  He's a very eccentric old guy, who's built his house out of whats left of the old Ghan Railway and makes carving out of talc stone.  We stopped to bathe in the natural hot springs before we spent that night under the stars in our 'swags' (big sleeping bags) at William Creek, a town that has a pub and a campsite...my kind of place - what more do you need?  We got to see our first desert sunrise while listening to dingos howling in the distance. It was proper outback!

Next up was Cober Peedy, but not before we experienced our first blow out - with parts of the tire flying passed the window, and we were in the middle of no-where, you couldn't even see a hill in the distance!  But we managed because Sandy seemed to be able to change a bus tire with her eyes closed.  Coober Pedy is the  opal capital of the world, and  where the people lilerally live underground.   Mad Max 3 was shot at the 'Breakaway ranges' nearby so we headed out there to see the sunset and to see if we could spot Tina Turner on the back of a moped - no dice!  That night we had a few drinks at the underground bar before heading to our underground bunks for an underground drunken sleep.

We spent most of the next day looking for Uluru and got there, via Lake Eyre, a massive salt lake, about an hour before sunset.  It was very surreal and definately worth the trip.  Beers and pictures all round before heading back to the camp site for food and games.   Went to bed only to be woken by a Dutch practise that i was previously un-aware of...sounded alot like throwing up.  The second night under the stars in just a swag was unbelieveable with all the shooting stars and the camp fire. This is what we work for right?!

Next day we did the base walk around Uluru, 10km.  It was 36 degrees and slightly hard going, but the interesting sites along the way made it easier.  I nievely(?) thought that the rock was a solid rock, but its not. There are caves and carvings and loads of stuff going on.  We all went for a dip in the pool in the afternoon and slept under shelter in various camp kitchens as it started to rain and we didn't want to ruin our tans or wake up floating!

We then went on to Kata Tjutu and walked through the Valley of the Winds and the next day we walked Kings Canyon.  They were both amazing, and at Kings Canyon and we got to swim in a natural pool. It was a well deserved break as we had to walk up 'Heartattack Hill' to get to it.  We have pictures but I know that they don't put across the size and beauty of the place or for that matter any of the outback.

We arrived in Alice on our seventh day and quickly hit the town and had a cracking night, i think.  The trip was really good fun and i'm sure that most of that was due to a good group, you know who you are!! and a legless, i mean fearless leader!  Make sure you all keep in touch.

We had a 21hour bus journey back to Adelaide from Alice.  Marnie was there to pick us up, again!, and we headed back to her house to find we had a flat battery!  In true Ozzy style Marnie and her parents made us a full breakfast, let us do our washing and gave us there house to sleep in for the afternoon. We tried to politely say no but Marnie's mum threatened to throw something at us if we didn't take her up on the offer - thank you again Summerside Family.

We then had a 3 day drive to Brisbane to take the Strumpf back to it's rightfull owners, Emma and Gemma. So here we are at the end of the Oz journey, we're about to head to Fiji, well maybe, apparently theres a bit of a military situation going on at the moment, so who knows.

I hope your all well, let us know your comments

FERSIWN CYMRAEG YMA:

Wedi cyrraedd Adelaide or diwedd a dal lan gyda ffrindiau reoddem ni wedi gwneud ar Ynysoedd y Whitsundays deufis yn ol, dyma ni'n bwcio ein taith ir 'Graig'.

Roedd hi'n 4 diwrnod o deithio cyn i gyrraedd Uluru ei hun, ond yn yr amser yma, fe gethon ni weld lot a, wel, lot o ddim hefyd!!  Tywod, tywod a mwy o blydi dywod! Chware teg, fe welon ni bethe eraill, a roedd hyd yn oed y milltirodd o ddim yn eitha diddorol.  Welon ni llwyth o fywyd gwyllt, llyffantod a emus, a llwyth o cangarws (byw, am y tro cyntaf mewn 3 mis).

Mi gethon ni gysgu mewn 'swag' am y tro cyntaf, allan yn yr anialwch gyda tan i'n cadw ni'n gynnes - just fel Corcadile Dundee!  Mi gysges i fel babi, yn cwato yn y sach gysgu mawr, ond gan fod John jyst ychydig yn dalach na fi, roedd ei ben e bach yn oer!  Ges i fy nihino yn y bore yn edrych allan ar y wawr yn torri a swn dingos yn chibannu yn y pellter.  Ron i wrth fy modd.

Fe stopion i gwrdd a dyn unugryw iawn y bore wedyn, dyn oedd wedi gwneud ei gartref yng nghanol nunman allan o hen ddarnau or Ghan Railway.  Mae ei fam yn filiynnydd (wedi gwneud ei harian mewn gwin) ond roedd e yn ddyn oedd yn credu'n fawr yn y ddear a'r bobl Aborigini a dylai Awstalia fod yn rhydd o'r frenhines - ron i'n hoff iawn ohono!

Stopio wedyn i ymlacio mewn 'spring' twym naturiol ac i weld llyn halen enfawr, cyn stopio yn tref cyntaf ers Adelaide.  Tref mwyngloddio oedd Coober Pedy a gan fod y tymheredd mor anhygoel o dwyn yn yr haf (dros 50 gradd!) mae nhw'n byw mewn ogofau, dan ddear.  Roedd teimlad rhyffedd iawn yn y dref, bron neb tu allan, a pawb tu mewn yn cysgodi.  Y noson hono, gethon ni sipian gwin tra'n gwylio'r haul yn machlud dros y 'Breackaways' - nifer fawr o ffilmiau wedi eu gwneud yma, dim bo fi erioed wedi clywed am yr un ohonyn nhw!

Ar ol diwrnod cyfan o deithio (codi am 4.30 y bore) dyma ni, or diwedd, yn cyrraedd Uluru erbyn machlyd.  Ron i yn hollol impressed - don i ddim yn meddwl y bydde fe mor fawr a mor lliwgar, ond pob eiliad, roedd yr haul yn newid y cysgodion, fel ddwedes i, hollol imprssed.

Am y tri diwrnod nesa, ron ni'n codi i weld y wawr, yna yn cerdded drwyr bore.  Y bore cynta, dyma ni'n cerdded o amgylch Uluru, sef 10k (mewn gwres 36gradd), y diwrnod wedyn, Valley of the Winds yn Kata Tijitu a wedyn ar ein diwrnod olaf, Kings Canyon.  Ar ol cerdded i fyny 'Heartattack Hill' (diolch byth ei bod hi'n 6 y bore a nid amser cinio) dyma ni'n cael cyfle i gerdded ar ben rhyweth or diwedd, a gweld o ddifri yr anialwch o'n cwmpas.  Wedyn y rhyddhad o neidio i mewn i lyn naturiol.  Rodd mynd mewn yn hawrdd, rodd dod allan yn stori wahanol!

Felly ar ol 4 diwrnod o deithio, a tri diwrnod o gerdded, dyma ni wedi cyrraedd pen y daith yn Alice Springs a dathlu gyda sesh go iawn, cyn neidio nol ar fws am daith 21 awr yn ol i Adelaide.  Roedden ni wedi bwriadu neidio yn y fan yn syth a gyrru i Brisbane, ond erbyn i ni gyrraedd y fan, roedd y batri'n fflat fel pancwsen!  Felly noson arall yn Adelaide yn bwyta fish a chips ar lan y mor cyn dechrau ar ein taith i Brisbane. 3 diwrnod yn ddiweddarach, a 2000k ychwannegol ar y cloc, dyma ni'n cyrraedd Brisbane a dychwelyd y fan i Emma a  Gemma, perchogion y Strumpf.  Noson fawr o ddal i fynny a clebran non stop cyn dal awyren i Melbourne ac yna i Fiji.  A dyma lle ryn ni ar hyn o bryd, John allan yn torheulio ei goesoau o dan coed palmwydd a fi'n cysgodi o'r gwrs mewn fan hyn.  Ond gewch fwy am Fiji dro nesa.  Dim i boeni am y 'coup' - ryn ni'n iawn ar hyn o bryd a dy'n ni ddim yn agos i'r brif ddinas, felly ryn ni am fwynhau.

Diolch i chi sydd wedi danfon negeseuon - cadwch nhw i ddod.

Hwyl am nawr

Ffionx

Hai Fion and John, Really great to read about our trip through the desert! I am already back home, but daydreaming a lot over Australia. So it was very nice to get your mail.Amazing that you travelled in a bus for 21 hours. That is almost the hours I spend in the airplane. I am curious about your journey, so I'll keep in touch. Have fun! greetings from a cold Holland (brrr), Kirsti

Hi John and Fion! The tour was amazing! I don't think we could have had a better group and tourguide. We (Bob and Alex) just got in Cairns and we're going to visit cape tribulation one of these days (it better be good, cause you advised us to go there) and after that we're doing the whole eastcoast. But have a great time at Fiji (if you get there) and we'll keep in touch. Alex (yes, the throwing up Dutch guy)
