So many spellings for the same place...ok, two different ways to spell it, but it still leads to a vague feeling of uneasiness when you want to make sure you're getting to the right city. But we did, so rest assured regardless of the spelling it is the same place!
Melaka is a gooooooooorgeous little town/city favoured by the Unesco Heritage Site title which it does deserve. A welcome respite from the big city heat of Kuala Lumpur, but still humid enough to be friggin' hot during the day, we spent our couple o' days here eating Japanese food (oops...yes we know we're in Malaysia...we can't get enough of the sushi), purchasing a cheap as chips Ukulele (it is called Tapioca and it is amazing) and making friends with the music shop owner (he's called Ice and he loves Scotland).
Durian smells like rubbish, and Melaka is beautiful.

We wish we'd spent Chinese New Year here as the Chinatown part is gorgeous...heaps of wee teeny tiny little alleyways with wee teeny tiny little houses all decked out in lanterns for the celebrations. And there are cool tea shops and little museums and temples and things there to keep folks amused. Went to a museum which is a BOAT...very cool. Got our photos taken by Asian tourists...very weird. Got bitten by a couple of mosquitoes...very itchy. Walked almost all the way to the bus station...very sweaty.

By the way, root beer is incredibly tasty! Apparently it's made from a tree...jodie fountain of knowledge told me that. But yeah, we liked Melaka.
OH and Durian...I thought it would smell like vomit, but it actually smells like the smell you get when you don't empty the bin and the old food ferments in it. Like 3 day old rubbish. It is STINKING...really stinking, but they love it here! Hopefully our noses will be vaguely conditioned for India on Monday...holy crap India on Monday! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!
