I made it to Antigua - got here yesterday.  It is not a whole like anything else I have seen in Guatemala thus far.  My hotel is really beautiful - Posada Jumo Ocag - a very strange name - and I have my own bathroom WITH hot water!!!  Spent today walking around all day - looking at the ruins of various churches - which was absolutely fabulous.  I had a wonderful day.  My favorite was the Convent of St. Claire, at which I think I took about 50 pictures.  Do not have my camera on me at the moment, so cannot upload any photos - but will do so tomorrow hopefully.

Had a bit of a scare this morning (that is an understatement) after I tried my debit card at 3 different banks before it finally worked.  I was down to about $1, and since it costs money to do ANYTHING here, including make a toll-free call (like to my bank) I was feeling pretty screwed.  Thankfully I found one where my card works!!  Probably would have started panicking if it had not worked at the third.

I think if you order a value meal you get to use the McInternet for 30 minutes for free.

Tomorrow evening I will make the trip to Guatemala City via shuttle - that way they take me directly to my hotel and I do not have to deal with the city.

Off to see the movie Frida, which I have already seen before, but really enjoyed.  They are playing it at one of the cafes here in Antigua.  But first, some things that I like about Guatemala.

1.  They know how to make hot chocolate.  I do not know what the secret is, but every time I have gotten hot chocolate here it has been fabulous.  It is definitely made from scratch - will have to try this more often at home.

2. Although I have not partaken in this, they deliver their pizza on motorcycles.  This is a motorcycle with a pizza warmer box on the back of it - the box could probably fit about 8 large pizzas stacked up.  I do not know quite why this strikes me as so funny, but every time one drives by I have to laugh.

3.  Avocados are cheap here.  This means, basically for me that if I order guacamole, I can get more than a quarter cup of it (which is all you would get in Atlanta, by paying about $4).

4. Another thing that I have not partaken of, but get a kick out of is the "McInternet" that they have at McDonalds.  I think if you order a value meal you get to use the McInternet for 30 minutes free.  McMansions I have heard of.  What is next?

I am sure there is more that I like about Guatemala, and will keep you updated as I think of more.
