Next stop - Kenya
From Magical mystery tour in Nairobi, Kenya on Apr 13 '06
As our Kenyan Airways (lots of leg room) flight began its descent to touch down at Kenyatta Airport we were nervously excited about what lay ahead. The high crime in the city is well documented but given that facts are diluted everytime they are communicated we were trying to be open minded. As I looked out of the window as the wheels touched the tarmac I saw a giraffe eating some lush leaves...I decided there and then Kenya was a great place to visit.
We were only in Nairobi for 2 days (a modern business and financial hub) and most of this was spent trying to buy travellers cheques - a seemingly impossible task in East Africa. The staff at our hotel were very helpful but it took us some time to get over how expensive food, drink and transport is...certainly compared with Ethiopia. Most of our time was spent wandering around the supermarket staring at such delights as cereal, yoghurt, kiwi fruit, bacon and fig rolls.
1st impressions
Not the only things we were staring at!We had obviously spent a bit too much time in Ethiopia as we practically wet ourselves with excitement about the number of white people (Mzungus) there are in Nairobi and kept pointing them out to each other. It may sound daft but you immediately know you aren't going to be stared at.
Headed off to Kampala on Sunday 16th of April, 12hrs on the coach but it was pretty comfortable. We intend to spend 4 days in Nairobi on our return and see some of the sites before picking up our tour to Zanzibar.
