3 things stick out in my mind from jaipur. none of them will be of particular interest to anyone, since they are regular everyday things that most people take for granted.i however, took immense pleaure in such  seemingly trivial establishments.

# 1: pizza hut. the first thing jen and i saw upon entering the city. of course we went.

#2: real coffee. no explanation necessary.

#3: mc donalds. i hate to say this, but seeing those golden arches really put a sparkle in my eye. i had a veggie burgr and fries and it was the first meal my stomach had agreed with in over 2 weeks. i'm going to marry ronald mc donald.

another highlight of jaipur included going to see and Indian "bollywood" movie. of course there were no english subtittles so i lost interest after the first 20 minutes and directd my attention towards the reactions coming from the crowd. there were hoots and hollars when certain actors came on screen, there was clapping, there were people cheering durning certain scenes. indians don't hold back it seems, when it comes to anything, being it screeching outl oud at movies, or grabbing my boob on the bus.  i'm just glad i can find it all so humourous.  one more thing: the movie theater was in the shape of a cake (?), and evidently, it's the only one to exisit anywhere in the world. it was quite fancy, much more than anything i've ever seen back home. indians really love their movies.

jaipur had a nice feel to it overall, but didn't stick out as anything overly special in my mind. we did  a bit of touring, saw some palaces, but maybe sightseeing is starting to become the norm for me, since i don't seem to be as impressed with it as i once was. no problem. i just need to smoke more.

Erin: I loved Jaipur especially the observatory (Jantar Mantar) by the City Palace, built by Jai Singh 1728. There's another in downtown New Delhi badly restored and in Varanasi which you must visit to bathe in the Ganga(or die, whichever comes first). I met an old math prof there who had given up everything just to sit by the sacred river and wait. From Varanasi you must go to Sarnath where the Buddha preached under a Bo tree, wonderful Stupa!I wish I was there, my three months was not nearly long enough, Cheers, M &Godmother Mary
