Day 3
From Corn Country in Greencastle, United States on Sep 17 '08
I woke up bright and early today, again, but this time I have time for some breakfast, even if my stomach disagrees. I leave my pretty hotel and drive an hour back in the direction I first came, and end up on the beautiful campus of DePauw.
I meet with the pre-law advisor who has such an adorable southern accent that I find myself smiling uncontrollably. Then it's a 3 hour grad fair in a beautiful old building bustling with students. After the fair I have a couple hours free so I wander the campus. My wandering brings me to the student store where I find the most comfortable looking t-shirt. Uncomfortable in the midwest humidity, I decide it is a sign that I must buy this shirt.
A gorgeous golden sunset over the fields of Indiana
Finally, my last event of the day, a small panel, made entirely of admissions employees and me, the recent student, and youngest on the panel. However, this seems to work in my favor as students begin asking questions directed at me. After the panel I change into my new comfy tee and begin the 3 hour drive to Merrillville, IN, where I will be staying the night.
Normally this would be a fairly easy trek right up the major highway, however, with the flooding caused by IKE all over the northwest, of course the major freeway is closed. Luckily Garmin saves the day again, getting to my hotel just after a gorgeous golden sunset over the fields of Indiana. Arriving so late, I decide to head to the hotel pub for dinner. Pub food, pub beer.
And then, my little table is suddenly overtaken! A large meeting has just let out and they attendees have gathered in my pub for their karaokee contest. Before I know it I'm 3 beers deep and the policeman leading the rest of the men (construction worker, indian, and cruella-de-ville wigged man) in the YMCA. I have a blast hanging out with a group of people I've never met before. But it's pumpkin time and I need my rest.
