Turns out Hever is 2 hours from London, which made my quite sad as I ended up missing quite a bit of Evita (musical which I was supposed to see in full).  I would have skipped it - but it was part of the Canterbuy/Hever bus trip, and both places were on the list according to Butler.  The castle was quite small, and more of a nice large house, belonging to Anne Bolyn's family.  She was the second wife of Henry VIII and was executed later in life.  The most interesting part of the house was the information about Anne/Henry and the family that later owned the house, whereas the belongings (all old) were interesting in their own right... but not thrilling.  The gardens outside were enormous and lovely.  It was a nice crisp and chilly afternoon, making the walk around the gardens fabulous.  There were italian gardens, a rose garden, numerous fountains, a mini waterfall, a Lake towards the back and a bunch of mazes of different sorts.

Not particularily something I would have chosen to see, but it was seen and was indeed nice in it's own way.
