We caught the ferry from Buenos Aires (Argentina)to Colonia (Uruguay) arriving at lunch time. Colonia is a lovely little traditional style town situated right on the ocean. This was the first time we had people approach us and try to sell us accommodation in their hostels. After settling into our hostel we hit the streets of Colonia and spent the afternoon admiring the quaint architecture and cobbled streets.
We looked through the little shops and markets and those of you in England who are familiar with Gary´s taste in souvenirs (specifically Tony and Kate) you will be pleased to know that he still appreciates a bit of tack and is instantly drawn to anything that has the name of the country sprawled across it in large letters. Luckily we have managed to avoid purchasing any of this so far and haven´t come across any t-shirt pictures of Inca children yet. I´ll have to make sure he doesn´t do any shopping alone or we could be in serious trouble!!
The smallest and strangest museums we had ever seen

Both Argentina and Uruguay seem to be big on their ice cream so in the afternoon we decided to try some local ´Helados´. As usual Gary chose the smallest ice cream option and I chose the largest and was given a little grief from the ´Ice Cream Nazi´ (otherwise known as Gary) for my choice.
The hostel we stayed at had a lovely log fire in the common area so we spent our evening chilling there and boy was it cold.
Our second day in Colonia was a national holiday and we were lucky enough to see a horse procession down the main street in front of our hostel. We also noticed that they have a strange way of advertising in Colonia where by someone drives around in a car with a radio blaring out the advertisements.

The weather wasn´t very kind to us on our second day so we decided to try a few museums and found these were the smallest and strangest museums we had ever seen and on average took us about 3 minutes per museum. After a few drinks by the water front we headed back to the hostel to enjoy the log fire.
