Back to Quito

We arrived back in Quito, and dinner was being served upstairs on the hostel terrace.  There was a really big crowd there, and we all headed into the New Town for the night.  We ended up going to three different clubs, and it was a pretty late one.

The next day, yep, you've guessed it.  Rick, Mike and I got up and got food at about 12, and the next few hours were spent lounging around the hostel.  I was chatting a few people upstairs for a bit, and then went to the internet cafe for a bit.  We had some Chinese for tea (seriously, we did nothing with our day), and Mike and I played a bit of chess.  Madeleine called in to say goodbye as she was heading off early the next morning, so we went upstairs to have a farewell drink with her.  The wine went down well though, so we sat up there around the wheelbarrow fire for an hour or so, chatting her, David and Louisa, Miles and Helen.  We also met another couple who were leaving the next day to volunteer at the animal sanctuary we were planning on visiting, so we arranged to meet them at breakfast and head off together.

We did just that the next morning, and got up extra early to get loads done with our day.  If we had known how the day would turn out, we would probably have stayed in bed.  The other two were up before us, so they said they'd head on before us.  That was fine, and they explained to us how to get there.  We had our brekkie, then headed out to get a cab to the train station.  We phoned the sanctuary on the way to let them know we were coming, but there was no answer, so we just headed to the bus station.  Big mistake...
