Arrival in Cyprus

I arrived in Cyprus at about 10:00 pm.  The European University of Cyprus (where I found decently priced housing after weeks of searching) had arranged for a car to pick me up...for the first time ever I had one of those signs with my name on it held up!  The airport is located in Larnaca, a town that is about 45 min away from Nicosia.  On the drive to the apartment, the taxi driver told me all about Cyprus...and of course did not fail to mention that he hates the Turks...which I was soon to learn is a strong sentiment among Greek Cypriots...Anyway, he was nice enough to drive around a bit extra near the apartment so I could get my bearings and showed me where students usually hang out.

When I got to my door..I was greeted by new roomates..Latizia and Merry, both from Belgium (French-speaking Belgians, which means I get to speak French whenever I want!!!!)

They were soooo nice and welcomed me right in..I hardly had time to put my bags down before they were like ''c'mon, we're going out!''...of course I had no choice, so I was ready to go...by now it was 11:30 or so..within 20 minutes they had introduced me to all the study abroad students that were living in the same building as us...all very nice and welcoming...people were from places like Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Mexico, Germany...it was a great way to start off in Cyprus!
