Friday 22 August 2008 Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge to Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary

Today’s short 2 hour drive to Sepilok Oran-utan Sanctuary was uneventful. We arrived at the feeding platform some 40 minutes before feeding time so we were at the front for a extra good view of the activities. We were told we would see between 1 and 5 individuals but were lucky enough to see 7 juveniles and some macaques. It was good but I saw more animals and preferred my experience back at Semenggoh near Kuching.

When we returned, we were still too early to get the keys to our rooms so had lunch early to fill in time. It was not a good lunch break as it turned out! I had a verbal stoush with Frau G. Enough said! Finally we were able to go to our rooms which turned out to be only mediocre. But there was a bed. I was tired. I needed sleep.

Dinner was at 18h00 with a pre-dinner beer or two. I had regained my appetite by now so the rice based dinner went down well. After that, I retired to my room to watch some of the Olympic Games finals wrap-up. You could say I needed a break – to be on my own. You know that feeling at the end of a trip when you have just had enough! Home can’t come soon enough for me at the moment! Not long to go now. So I’ll just turn in and sleep.
