Beach Day Today

From Australia 2008 in Sydney, Australia on Mar 04 '08

Today I got out of the city center and visited the beach areas in the Eastern part of the city.  I went to world famous Bondi Beach and dipped a toe in the water. It was a little chilly, around mid 70s. The water is beautiful aqua blue, and yes I took lots of pictures.  I took a short walk (about half hour) from Bronte Beach to Bondi on a path that follows the coast.  Very pretty and reminded me of Monterey, except the water here is clear and blue and WARM compared to Monterey. Lots of the scenery around city reminds me of SF.  The homes built on the hillsides facing the water remind me of Sausalito and Tiburon.  I was 0 for 2 in my attempts to visit 2 historic houses.  I found out when I got to each one that they are only open on weekends.  Rats. I'm going to try to get to the Blue Mountains tomorrow, if I can call for a reservation.  Thanks to Good old AT&T, my cell phone doesn't seem to be able to make calls.  I'm going to try to contact them later and find out what the problem is.  Another good thing about Australia is that you don't tip in restaurants, which feels very weird.  But being a large city, things are expensive here even without the tip.

Signing off for today,

Ellen

Hi Ellen - Sounds as tho you are having a great time! Sydney is wonderful I agree. Did you get to the Zoo yet? It's on a little island in Sydney Harbor and well worth checking out. I'm off to UK this weekend to visit my family so won't be able to check your blog while I am away. Be back on March 16 so will check it again then. Cheers Mate! - Sue
