We arrived in Munich with Kevin starting to get sick. By the next morning he was, but there is nothing that cordials and beer cannot cure. So, off we went to Christenland Fair in our little burg. They had beer and bratwurst waiting for us. The kids had bear helpers at the skating rink to keep them upright and going. It was really neat. Their whole family showed up, grandparents and all.
We headed down the shopping path that was engrained into the existing buildings. There was history and growth in these small German pathways. The churches and statues were exceptional. The shops were full of local food and sales items. The toys were all wood or stuffed animals. The food was all traditional with fried potato cakes and apple sauce, also suasages with buns.
People watching was unique with the traditional residents and the new Germans (youth), no carryover. I was amazed that the US economy impacted Germany, but not France. Huge reductions in sales and regular prices were near half of Paris.
The Marriot here was a modern blessing. King size bed, 8 foot shower; who could ask for anything more. Great restaurant downstairs, modern local cuisine.
We wondered out for more pictures and food on the 25th with great results. Make sure to notice the two bronze statues of the giant catfish and the wild boar. Everyone posed with them, so it must mean good luck. We meandered around and found Kevin a bathroom in the subway below. They don't beleive in port a pots or too many public bathrooms. After our photo blitz we wandered into a small bistro for pizza and weisebbeir (wheat beer), good stuff. As we enjoyed our meal a snow storm blew in, yes we had a White Christmas! This made for fun walk home.
We did enjoy dinner at the Augustiner Beer Garten one evening. Yes that is a 2 litre beer mug and all real men have to drink them. These are the regular size. They will give you a litre, if they think you are a tourist, drink it too fast and you are a german somewhere in your ancestory. Didn't see the St Paulie Girl here, but her cousins Broom Hilga and Hildi served beverages, nice moles, with hair.
Good times, but off to Italy, Hey Mambo!
