Finally Headed East
From A Year on the Road in Unity, United States on Aug 05 '08
Everyone headed their separate ways about 10AM this morning. It was sad to say good-bye. We drove East toward Boise. I never knew how many mountains there were in Eastern Oregon. We had a beautiful drive but it was slow going – lots of ups and downs and you don’t just race through in a motorhome. We made a stop at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. No place in the world shows more complete sequences of land populations, both plant and animal. The mountain sides show large expanses of sedimentary rock which tell the story of how the planet has evolved over 54 million years. I tried to take photos but my camera wouldn’t work right. We decided we wouldn’t make it all the way to Boise so we spent the night at Unity Lake State Park. It was lovely and the lake was beautiful but it was very hot. Since they had 50 amp hookups we could run our air conditioner as much as we wanted.
