Day 5 of the Mystery trip took us to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin located in Door County.  If you have never been blessed to see this part of the country, let me explain where we were!  If you look at a map of the state of Wisconsin we were in the "thumb".  Door County is a peninsula with Green Bay to the west and Lake Michigan to the east.  Sturgeon Bay is located near the center of the peninsula.  We stayed two wonderful nights in the Stone Harbor Resort in downtown Sturgeon Bay.  Our resort was within walking distance of the downtown shopping and restaurants and we overlooked two wonderful draw bridges.  The lounge in the hotel featured a singer the first night doing Sinatra songs who was actually quite good! Upon arrival in Sturgeon Bay we ate lunch at Culvers (great fast food - Butter Burgers -in the midwest) and met our first local guide.  Bob  took us to the first lighthouse (there are several on the peninsula) at the Sturgeon Bay Coast Guard station.  He also took us to a winery, a dairy (great ice cream!) where Dylan got to milk a cow and ride a slide, and to a market area for shopping.  The treat of the evening was a fish boil in Jacksonport at the Square Rigger Galley.  A large pot of water is put on to boil over a wood fire and 2 large pitchers of salt are added.  Next come the potatoes which boil for about 30 minutes.  Onions are added to boil with the potatoes and then about 10 minutes before dinner fresh (like just out of the lake fresh) whitefish is added (rib and tail sections - no eyes thank you very much) to the pot.  When the fish is ready, kerosene is poured onto the fire and all the oil is consumed by the fire!!!  Those of you who know me well (which is most people reading this blog) know that I do not eat anything that lives in water.  However, I did taste of this fish for the experience and it did not taste one bit fishy!!!  I could have actually eaten this meat!  I was afraid that I wasn't even going to be able to eat the potatoes which had shared the pot with the fish...but they did not taste fishy either!  It was marvelous!  If you ever get the opportunity to feast at a fish boil - take it!!  Pictures of our day are on the next few blogs...enjoy!!!
