My last day in Greece
From Three months away in Heraklion, Greece on Jun 27 '08
Suddenly, it was my last full day in Crete and my last day teaching at the summer camp. At school, the kids and I spent the first period playing bingo. Then, for the last three periods, the whole school had one gigantic and chaotic recess. A little bit of Greek Scooby Doo and more bingo. The older kids all staged a huge water fight, soaking pretty much everyone on the school grounds, before starting a full-scale game of dodge ball. My kids being a bit younger ended up hanging out back in the classroom with me, where there was even more bingo and just general goofing around. I gave one of my classroom interpreters my camera, and she took a ton of pictures for me. I was forbidden from looking at the chalkboard (a half dozen grimy little hands covered my face to make sure I couldn't peak) while they drew me a picture -- they took a photo of it and then told me I couldn't look at it until I was home in America. They also wrote me a little note that they said I couldn't open till I got home either. Eh, what they don't know won't hurt them...I looked at the photo and read the note on the bus ride home to the hotel. :-) I'm attaching a photo of their chalkboard artwork...too cute!
After many hugs and goodbyes, my two weeks of teaching class were over. Luckily, we had an organized winery tour scheduled for the afternoon -- the perfect distraction. The countryside was gorgeous and the wine was delicious. We had one last group dinner and then, in the morning, I headed off to Scotland. I must admit, after two weeks of 98 degree plus temperatures I was ready for cool and rainy weather. If there is a heat wave while I'm in there, I'm going to be ticked.
PS I have added photos to my last three blogs, if you are interested in checking them out!
