Marketplace Journey Camp
From Ready to Travel Tennessee for Summer Missions in Newport, United States on Jul 18 '08
Hey once again,
I just finished an Amazing week at Marketplace Journey Camp. This years Journey camp, the children's camp done through the TBC, theme was a Marketplace in biblical times. The whole entire Chapel at Carson Springs was transformed into a Marketplace. It was a really cool set up. Every student when they got there got to make a outfit that they wore during their Marketplace time every day and all of the staff also dressed up as Jewish people. It was really cool. Every day, after bible study was marketplace, during marketplace the kids were given 3 coins to spend at various shops that were set up in the chapel. There were places to make bread, butter, hammer like a carpentar would, meet a Jewish family, learn how to basket weave or make a fish net, do tiling, eat various foods, make shepherds flutes and so much more. The kids had a lot of fun and it let them be able to see a little bit of how it was like living in Biblical times.
One month before journey camp started at linden, the band that they had broke up, so two of the members were coming but they didn't have enough people to sing and help out by being in the band. I ended up being in the band for the week singing and David W. played guitar. I think it went really well, but it was interesting being apart of the band. It was definitely a different experience. We really complemented each other with David Mays on guitar/keyboard/voice and Dylan on Jimbaye (probably spelt wrong) and David W. on guitar and me sining. I don't think we could have done to much better with the time we had.
It was a great week being able to hang out with the kids, hiking with the kids, singing in the band, and being able to do what I really love to do. I really enjoyed this week, beacuse it really confirmed that I am doing what God wants me to do. It was a great experience that will be useful in the future.
