Maputo

The shuttle left at 4:00 AM in the morning ... so I walked to the bus in my sleep ... Surprisingly, I did not forget anything at the campground, even my stakes made it. I just put them somewhere else and so I first thought they stayed in Tofo ... I mean, that would be absolutely understandable ... leaving before the crack of dawn ...

We made it to Maputo at around 11:00 AM (it was a very quiet ride ... only a snoring was heard ones in a while ;-) ...), and I checked into the hostel. Sascha (German), Marco (from Chile) and I went to the bus organisation to get our tickets to South Africa. I met the two guys in Tofo and just to proof how small the backpackers world is, here the coincidence: Sascha and his girlfriend Eva (also German) studied in Cape Town for a couple of months, during that time they split up and at the end of their time in South Africa both traveled separately through Southern Africa. Well, I haven't met hardly any Germans (only a handful and I actually like that), but I met Eva in St. Lucia and we kayaked together for a day ... small world, isn't it.

We got good tickets for the next day and went to the old town of Maputo. There was a market to explore and we also went to the railway station. This station was designed by Mr. Eiffel ... the same person who also designed the Eiffel tower. And you could tell ... ;-)

That night we had a couple of beers on the deck of the hostel (we had a great view of the harbour of Maputo) and just enjoyed the warm weather! And I slept in a real bed after almost three weeks ... I love to camp, but my camping mat gets thinner and thinner, so it was a nice change to sleep on a soft (normally too soft, but who wants to be that picky!) mattress ;-)
