Meribel the Heart of the Biggest Ski Area in the World

We arrived on Thursday January 3rd, to bright blue sky and howling winds. As the winds were so strong all but one lift was closed that afternoon, so we retired to the flat unable to ski. The trip was fantastic and the three valleys are one of the best places to ski in the world, the expanse of runs is unbelievable and when the weather is good, it really is a great experience. However we did not get the great weather, and rather than escape the mild British winter, we seemed to take it with us. No matter as apart from a few minor setbacks, including broken poles, loosing gloves in other people's lockers and not being able to tell the white sky from the white mountain, it was most enjoyable. Particularly as partially due to the bad weather, the slopes were entirely free of people. In fact one day we had the best part of a whole Mountain to ourselves. Apres Ski involved settling down in bed in front of a 14 inch TV and watching a few Hollywood classics, from the Usual Suspects to Swingers, this nightly ritual, as it turned out, was an opportunity to relax with a few beers and get some well-needed rest before the next day of unforgiving skiing.
