Wedding Bells, Marthas Vineyard, Arizona & Chicago
From A Sweet Homecoming in Boston, United States on Jul 07 '08
Our flight from Bangkok to Boston was delayed long enough to put us in London overnight and arriving in the US a full day later. We didnt mind too much when we were put up in a nice hotel and given the freedom to order anything on the room service menu!! (see picture for full effect!!!)
Amidst all the pre-wedding frenzy we arrived in Boston and had to find our own way to Salem, where my family was staying. The cab driver was a little confused when we asked to be dropped off at a coffee shop in town with our 7 bags of luggage and carry ons! We realized how difficult life was without cell phones bc I lost about $4 in a pay phone trying to get ahold of someone to give us the address for the hotel. So, we waited, and waited, until finally my mom, Devin and his girlfriend were free to pick us up!
After getting settled in a hotel we soon saw the whole rest of my family including the bride and groom to be. We couldnt believe all the planning and organizing they were doing, but still seemed to be keeping their cool. We both sat back and thought... maybe vietnam wasnt so crazy after all- they were really mastering the art of organized chaos!
The following 4 days was so busy that we barely noticed the effects of jet lag. Our first morning we were up at 5am and decided to be productive and go to the gym, get coffees and walk around a still sleepy town. Unfortunately, that only lasted one day and after that we were back on track with the time zone (and reluctancy to get to the gym!).
Fortunately, we were back in time to be included in bachelor and bachelorette festivities and the next day the rehearsal/ rehearsal dinner, and of course, the big day!!
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves--- but the wedding was in a picture perfect spot and the whole ceremony was beautiful followed by a wonderful party! At the after party on the beach Tyler and I gave the new Mr. & Mrs. Johnathon Moeser a couple of the paper lantern balloons from Thailand to light and set off over the ocean. I think everyone appreciated their glowing beauty in silent awe (or were silently praying that the unexpected winds wouldnt carry them over to anyones house and start a fire!).
Next couple of days following the wedding, we spent in the city of Boston with people that had traveled far distances for the occasion. We had a fun night out at the Black Rose, went on the famous Boston Duck tour, walked along the freedom trail, and ate plenty of sea food.
With the wedding frenzy coming to a halt, and the newly weds off on their honeymoon to Jamaica, the rest of the family geared up for a relaxing week in Marthas Vineyard. Tyler and I, my brother Devin and his girlfriend, my parents and some good friends from England rented a house right on the water near the town Oak Bluffs, but not far from Edgartown.
With no agenda but to try and catch our dinner for the night, we spent a lot of time on the dock with a crab trap and fishing poles. The 2 inch ones we kept pulling up didnt cut it, and we had to give in to store bought groceries! We tried though! One of the nights Tyler and I teamed up to put our newly learned Thai cooking skills to use. We cooked for a crowd of 15 and as far as we know, no one came down with any illnesses! Actually, I think we did a really awesome job considering the lack of Thai ingredients at the Marthas Vineyard grocery store!
The day I was dreading finally arrived when Tyler and I went our separate ways- he to Arizona to spend time with his family, and I back to Chicago.
Its been about 3 weeks since that day and I still havent gotten used to having my travel partner so far away. Its been great family time for both of us, but now we are figuring out our next move- where, what, when. The main consideration is where we can find work overseas. So, if anyone has any suggestions, we have open ears!
The rough plan is to start in England and go from there. We will keep you posted with any new developments and of course the blog will continue : )
