We crossed the border into Paraguay so we could take in another country. We arrived at the capital Asuncion and checked into our very colonial looking hotel. It seems however that most of the Spanish buildings have been greatly neglected since they left. Paraguay is supposed to be the cheapest place to pick up electronics so we helped fellow Danish passengers Hannah and Jess buy an iPod without getting ripped off. The prices were cheap but not a great deal cheaper than the internet these days. The currency itself is crazy as 10,000 Guaranies is equivalent to £1. We really pushed the boat out when we spent over 150,000 just to have dinner!!

There isn't a great deal to do in Asuncion so we just wandered around taking in some beers and the atmosphere. There was a huge demonstration going on as the government was about to announce a decision on handing out cash to the slum dwellers. We weren't sure though if it was the slum dwellers demonstratiing for it or the rest of the city against it!! All in all it was good to see another city which could be nice with a lick of paint here and there but on reflection there wasn't a great deal to do.
