The day I met a cute French girl

From Americans in Burger King in Seville, Spain on Dec 31 '07

She was at The Phone House, where all the foreigners (and several Sevillianos) go to buy their cell phone or get SIM cards for their foreign phones. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know a lick of Spanish, nor does the saleswoman speak French or English.

However, the French girl does speak English. So my friends and I served as translators. Afterward she and I got to know each other. Her name is Sora (sounds like sora, is spelled like solemn). She’s here studying, as well, and doesn’t really know anyone. She wasn’t able to get her phone activated yet, so she took my number and she said she’d love to meet up some time for drinks. When I told her my name, though, she laughed heartily and said, “Where is Bryan? Bryan is in the Kitchen. Bryan is on the bus.” She looked surprised that I didn’t get the obvious joke.

"Where is Bryan? Bryan is in the kitchen. Bryan is on the bus?"

It turns out Bryan was the name they used in her English textbooks back in grade school. I guess this meeting has been in the making for a long, long time, eh? She’s been learning to love me for awhile.

That was a pretty silly thing to say.

Hmmm...sounds like you were much more eager to help this French girl than you were the elderly American couple at Burger King... why is that? hahaha I love your writing in this journal...your style and words along with your descriptive observations make me feel like I am reading a good book. miss you mom
