Rotorua
From International Student Volunteers: New Zealand in Rotorua, New Zealand on Aug 11 '07
We traveled from Waitomo to Rotorua this morning. Along the way we went zorbing (from the Amazing Race). They fill this gigantic plastic ball with warm water. Three people dive into the ball which is on the edge of a hill and start running. It is impossible to stand so we just rolled the whole way, it was so funny, everyone just laughs and screams the whole way down. Afterwards, we went to Agrodome Adventures where they have a skydive simulator, a swoop bungy, and agrojet. I choose not to do anything because we will be skydiving, bungy jumping, and going on a jet later in the trip.
At night we went to a Polynesian Spa. Rotorua is a geothermal hot spot so the spas are heated naturally. They were so relaxing, especially since were were all sore form black water rafting.
Monday morning we went to Rainbow Springs and the Kiwi Encounter. They give you a tour and teach about some of their native animals. New Zealanders absolutely love their kiwis. We learned how they are trying to save them. We also got to see four kiwi, which apparently is a huge deal. Afterwards we went shopping, it was good and not too expensive. There are tons of souvenir shops. At night we hung out at the hostile. Everyone hangs around in the common areas and you have the opportunity to meet a lot of cool people from all over.
