Today we went into the Okterbfest. It was huge. Similar in size to the show grounds back home but with lots more rides, people, dirndls and of course beer! We arrived late, compared to the hardcores, at about midday. The festival itself is held in the heart of Munchen (Munich to non Germans) and lasts for 15 days. Its free to enter, beers are large (1L), expensive and difficult to get sometimes. Chrsitian, his brother Alex and his girlfriend took us in there, those 3 dressed the part in traditional Bayern dress, and the tourists very much standing out. The early comers fill the beer tents and after that they only let a few people in during the rest of the day, each local brewrey in Munchen has its own tent, they hold from 1000 to 8000+ people inside and another few thousand outside in the beer gardens. There was about 12 or so tents, which actually are buildings they build only for the Oktoberfest and knock down after its done. We got a beer after waiting about half hour, but you can only drink them in the tents or gardens. The side show alleys and gift stalls are a huge area, and people seemed to be having huge fun. We somehow fluked our way into a tent and there it was, people dancing, singing, a live band in the middle of the tent, a great atmosphere, but i guess the angry drunks dont tend to come out while the sun is still up. This was a great place to go to, very glad we came back. Would be an awesome place to come with a bunch of friends and have a huge couple of weeks.
