Wahoo! We have successfully riden a full stage of the tour de france. Dunkerque, France to Gent, Belgium was stage 3 of last years tour. Approx 168km although was 180km on our speedo. The distance between the towns is about 100km but we took quite a S curve route. In fact the most frustrating aspect of the day was crossing the A10 motorway three times as it took the direct route! Regardless, it was a very tough day with 15-20 knot NE in our faces pretty much the whole day. Averaged 23.8kph for whole stage so about 7 hrs 45 min in saddle. Very, very flat stage which became a little monotonous. Ominous omen in that we missed our first turn-off but otherwise navigation fairly easy. Very casual border crossing with only a statue to acknowledge our transit. Day one in the books and v happy to be underway.
