TKO MMA Fight in Montreal....sweet!
From Embarking on the Journey of my Life in Montreal, Canada on Dec 13 '07
About a 3 hour drive and we made it back into Montreal, it only seemed like yesterday we were here again as we checked into the hostel we stayed in the very first night we left home. We were here for 3 nights so we thought we make do with the same place for the first night and find another place for the next two. Also after a very enjoyable laugh the first night at Comedy Works the first night, we decided to go back. However, this time rather than Improv, it was standup and man it was just as good for $10.

The next day we checked out the newer part of Montreal, walked around town and checked out the Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal and walked around town then we searched for a B&B place advertising for like $55 a night but once we got there the prices miraculously jacked up from the advertised on the website and ended up being $75. So we ditched that place to find another and fortunately we found a B&B place a few blocks away called Roger Chez who gave us a room for $64 cash with breakfast included and he wasn’t too fussed about us paying only for the first night and so we checked in.

So on our last night in Montreal, we already had tickets to a TKO MMA fight with the main event featuring Steve Bosse and Icho Larenas at the Bell Centre. So for the first half of the day we walked around town and too much of my surprise, I have never seen so many adult entertainment and strip clubs in my life, Montreal is fully filled with them pretty much like Starbucks in America it was definitely overwhelming.
But not as overwhelming as restaurants that still serve Escargots. We looked around town searching for Escargots and we couldn’t find a place until we went into a visitor centre and asked a lady and she recommended a place a few blocks away and so we went into this Bistro and it seemed like we were underdressed as everyone there had a collar shirt on and looked pretty good. Anyhow we ordered our Escargots and our main dishes as well. The escargots came served with melted cheese on top it was sort of like eating conch meat kind of chewy but not too tough but it tasted alright though.
Following lunch we went to the Planetarium for a couple of hours and still having a little bit of time to kill we walked around town and into the malls again before making our way to the Bell Centre to see the fight.
The fight was awesome, it was totally a boy thing seeing a couple of guys just smashing the faces of each other until their bloodied up and still continuing to fight until one gets a technical knockout or submitted and voluntarily tapping out. But aside from the blood and gore involved it is actually a great sport where guys fight it out using not one type of Martial Art but several forms including Muay Thai, Boxing, Ju Jitsu and wrestling etc. The fighter are quite skillful these days and I sure don’t want to bump into a guy like that in a bar, cause I’ll have my head snapped off in a matter of seconds.
Once the fight ended and the crowd dispersed, Dave and I found a pub and had a few beers before hailing a cab and calling it a night.
