Kotor
From European Tour 2007 in Kotor, Serbia on Jun 11 '07
A short distance away was the newly formed country of Montenegro and with us being as close as this it was an opportunity we were not going to miss. We decided to have a prepaid excursion to Kotor and other surrounding villages as reading up on Podgorica fed back unpleasant reviews of the countries capital and we promptly decided to give it a miss.
Kotor reviews however were very much different and it read of impressive shore views and steep fjords and scenic surroundings. It delivered all of these although the day was rather hazy and views were limited and not as clear as they could of been. The fjords were tall but not as dramatic as i was led to believe and once there it was impossible to find an ATM to get some money out. Their country was being supported by the Euro and I had diminished all that I had of these back in Austria.

Rhys, however did have some and he could of lent to me but we were separated on this tour as it was conducted by taxis. Both taxis were separated by 20 minutes and I was lumbered with a heavily pregnant woman and her husband and an Australian who never shut up! The day was long and we were hurried into seeing as much as possible by our guide who had this sinister mafia look about him. He was from the former Yugoslavia but I cant remember where he said he was from (he wasn't from Montenegro).
He spoke in a quite, unclear voice but tried his best to monotonously read through the script in his head that he obviously had said many many times before. We entered a walled town in Kotor and discovered the small churches and Mosques along with the usual tacky shops and cafes. None of the latter I could indulge in as i was carrying useless Croatian currency.
Our day was a circular tour around the inlet coast and we finally got a short ferry crossing to bring us back to our starting to our starting point. With a few more snaps of the waters edge, we headed on back to Dubrovnik.
