Cannon Beach is a great getaway if you want a little R&R from your busy schedule. There are dozens of hotels, motels, B & B's or houses to rent to fit any of your accommodation needs.

Lucky for me one of my good friends lives in the area, so for the most part we just crash at her house or go camping somewhere close by. Cannon Beach is great because it's close by so many fun and different activities. There are dozens of parks and view points around the area, all you have to do is drive down the main road or highway and look for signs. Some of these places include Oswald State Park, Ecola State Park and Hug Point State Recreation Site.

On a typical visit I meet up with my friend and her local friends and we usually go to the beach to take in some sun, surf or just hang out. After that we go to a local restaurant (they all are pretty good, but Bills Tavern & Brew House is one of my favorites, especially since they brew their own beer) and grab a bite to eat. Fresh seafood is easily available so I would recommend anything from the clam chowder to the fish and chips.

After that we usually build a large bonfire on the beach (complete with a cooler full of good beer) jam on the guitar, watch the stars and maybe go for a night swim. Nothing beats being outside at night, I love being around nature and hearing the sound of the waves.

For breakfast the Pig N' Pancake is a town favorite, they serve any breakfast dish you could think of. However, I also like a small place called "Wanda's" but its a little drive outside of the actual town of Cannon Beach.

After that the day can be spent wandering in and out of the various art galleries, bookshops and other crafty and quirky stores that line the main drag. The town was built for strolling, it's just up to you to decide where and how long you want to go for.

All in all Cannon Beach is a great weekend getaway. Whether you want a bit of stress relief or to be in the element of nature, this is the place to be. However, I would recommend a sweater for the nights because even though it may be a comfy temperature during the day, the nights are a bit chilly!
