Our stay in Sorrento has been short and sweet. We arrived here around 3:00 pm after a 2 and a half train from Rome and a very sweaty hour-long train ride from Naples. The town of Sorrento is really really beautiful but very touristy. From our hotel we have such an amazing view of the water. On our first day we just walked around Sorrento to get a feel for the city. We ate at a cute restaurant that was the cheapest meal we have had so far (aside from McDonalds). Today we took a day trip to the Island of Capri. We did not realize how expensive the whole ordeal was! First there was a ferry to and from the island, then we wanted to go and see the famous blue grotto (caves which have the bluest water we have ever seen) which also costs money, then there is an entrance fee to get into the grotto. So all in all this was a very expensive outing. The blue grotto was amazing! So unique and really a positive experience! But to get to the blue grotto is a whole other story. We took a boat ride which was fine but once we got to the grotto there were so many other boats that we had to wait over an hour to get onto a rowboat to take us into the caves. While waiting there were so many waves that we kept rocking back and forth and we all felt so sick. A kid on another boat actually puked (Jay said he was going to be next) but luckily we made it inside and had a great time. All in all, sorrento has been really nice and tomrorrow we head off to Pompei and then to Naples to end off the Italy part of our trip.
