Better than the postcards
From Mike and Meg's Honeymoon in Mount Rushmore National Monument, United States on Jul 04 '07
Well I shaved for the first time since the wedding today (oh yeah its mike again). After the badlands Meg and I drove another hour and a half to see the famous carved out presidents. We were hesitant to stop, mainly because if you have seen a post card of Rushmore...you have seen it. Well both of us stood corrected today. We arrived there around 2pm (mountain time) to Rushmore and paid our $8 to get in and see what all the hype is about. To be honest with you, both of us were taken back. To see this fantastic piece of historical art is something else. I refrained from the picture where it looks like I am picking Abe's nose mainly because I was a bit humble there. They did a very good job of keeping is quite patriotic without overdoing the whole thing. I sat there for a couple of minutes just watching all of the tourists like us and imagining all who put all the long hours into carving out George's stern look. By the way I was surprised to find out that my uncle George had quite a bit to do with the constructing of the whole thing (George Grover). Take a look in the picture. After we saw the boys, Meg and I decided to camp somewhere close in order to get an early start in the am to head out to Yellolwstone. We called for reservations and got the last cabin in the whole park. They probably just tell you that crap to make you feel good. We are staying in the near by KOA and setting up the 'ol tent again. This place has a pool, wi fi (by the way I am going to go ahead and say this entry is sponsored by K.O.A. campgrounds) for providing us with easy wireless internet. We just came from the pool which I am pretty sure is filled with about 10% pee from all the little travelers that are all over this place. There is a guy playing tonight acoustically under the pavilion and we are off to check him out and hopefully convince him to either play some Supergush or the Mr. Pants song. We are driving to Yellowstone early tomorrow and then off to Crater Lake in Oregon (I think, I have to check with the wife about that). Also I spoke with Lutwin today who is in Pacific Grove at a week long Steinbeck center workshop and we are picking him up on the 14th. Before that we are staying in San Francisco (the greatest city in the U.S). Thats all for now. We will update soon (Probably San Fran) unless of course KOA has anything to do with it!!
