On the first day of our road trip we headed north from Los Angeles and ended up in Morro Bay for the evening.  We visited some interesting places on the way.  Santa Barbara was a lovely stop, especially on a nice day.  We visited the Mission, a very scenic old church.  There is a rose garden right next to it, a lovely picnic spot.  Though we could have easily spent more time admiring the views, after our picnic lunch there we continued on to Solvang, a great little Danish town.  Solvang was founded in 1911 by Danish Americans, and it is just beautiful!  We had a lot of fun walking around in this town and admiring the buildings.  It was both clean and quiet!  Solvang has a great selection of gift stores, perfect for the tourist who wants trinkets to remember her trip by!  I especially liked The Book Loft, a fun used bookstore that had a great selection.  We also had fun choosing from the numerous bakeries in Solvang - where pastries and cookies abound!  We stopped for the night in Morro Bay, an interesting little town.  At the edge of town is Morro Rock, a 576 ft rock outcropping right on the shoreline.  We had a lovely walk around the town at night.  We find the best places to stop are at these little towns:  they are quiet, perfect for walking around, and all-around are very peaceful settings.
