Lots to see
From Volume 4 Turkey and westward in Oxford, United Kingdom on Jun 26 '07
Breakfast was a nice surprise at the YHA. We had scrambled eggs, toast, bacon which was yummy, sausage, yogurt, cereal, fruit, beans which defy my eadibility list, and a 7/11 type coffee dispenser with a choice of 6 buttons for various hot beverages.
The day presented itself in a warm and cheery manner which changed mood all day until breaking down in sobs by 4pm.
While the day was still in a better frame I stopped at the Oxford Castle for a tour with a 'warden'. Recently confirmed as a Saxon tower on the west end. Then rebuilt by the Normans as a fortress to intimidate the Saxons. It was converted to a prison at the time of the civil wars of 1640's. It continued a role as a jail or gaol in English English filled with debtors to murderers and other miscreants until 1996.
Teegar and I got mugshots and we exercised with the hard labor displays. We saw all the many ways cruelties were inflicted upon the incarcerated.
After that bit of jollity I strolled over to the Botanic garden for a walk though something bucolic. It was a reminder of my plants at home. Another stop was made this time to the Magelene College pronounced Maudlin for a glance a collegiate life. This particular college even has its own deer park.
When you think of Oxford the names of famous folk goes on and on. This is the apex of higher learning for much of the Western and for that matter the whole world. The two days I was here coincided with the open days for potential students
