This entry is all about my first field trip with my Hong Kong students. We took a day to travel by bus to Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park which is a part of the Sai Kung Country Park in the New Territories. It took about an hour by bus to get there from our school. Sai Kung is a fishing village and this area of greater Hong Kong is vastly different when compared to Central District on HK island. Sai Kung Peninsula is an isolated part of Hong Kong with beautiful countryside, rolling hills and some of the best beaches. Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park is a protected area that is involved in research with the World Wildlife Fund. It is one of the few remaining areas of Hong Kong where coral can be found. This was an excellent spot to take the children as we are learning about habitats and "interdependence". In this one small area, the children could explore a mangrove forest, a brackish stream and ocean life in the tide pools. It was a beautiful day to take this trip. All the second grade scientists were on the job investigating! Take a look at what they found!
