Arenal Volcano

We travelled by boat and car to La Fortuna in northern Costa Rica hoping to see the famous Arenal volcano which is not only active but constantly erupting. However, less than half the visitors here ever actually see the cone as it is often covered by clouds.

This was how it was when we arrived and it was also raining. All was not lost however as the hotel had hot springs with a swim up bar so we sat in the warm water drinking piña coladas.

The next day was clear and warm so had a nice view of the volcano from our room. Went for some relaxing spa treatment in the morning which involved being covered in volcanic mud and wrapped in plastic. Then we went on a tour of the volcano which was great as you could hear the eruptions and see the rocks coming down the side.
