Today we found an Internet Café in the morning – we were able to collect our email – unfortunately we were not able to send any of the daily journals we had done since Tuesday – we’ll try again later. Sally was able to update the Travel Blog. Our challenge for the morning was to bring back to the ship some special bread – Sally headed to the local market and took care of that task.

This afternoon we took a bus tour of Lyon – we were able to see some of the special sites of the city including the 19th century Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere, the University Bridge, a fountain that was sculpted by the same artist that carved the Statue of Liberty. Many of the houses in Lyon date from the 16th /17th century when silk spinning, banking and printing made the city prosperous. Lyon is the 2nd largest city in France (as long as you don’t ask someone from Marseilles).

Our tour of Lyon was very interesting – some of the highlights included the paintings on the walls and our walking tour which took us through these very unique interior passage ways. You’ll also note that Lyon has a “mini Eiffel Tower”.

We are 2 hours from the French Alps, 2 hours from the Italian border and 2 hours from Paris – so this is a major hub for France. This evening we have 6:00 pm Happy Hour, 6:30 discussion on the French Presidential election and 7:00 dinner with Escargot with a French Fish Dinner … the dinner was great so I thought you’d like to see what we ate!

Lyon was a beautiful large city … that seemed small and easy to visit. It would be fun to come back to try some of the great restaurants here.

Life is good … we’re enjoying France
