Today we found an Internet Café in the morning – we were able to collect our email – unfortunately we were not able to send any of the daily journals we had done since Tuesday – we’ll try again later. Sally was able to update the Travel Blog. Our challenge for the morning was to bring back to the ship some special bread – Sally headed to the local market and took care of that task.

This afternoon we took a bus tour of Lyon – we were able to see some of the special sites of the city including the 19^th century Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere, the University Bridge, a fountain that was sculpted by the same artist that carved the Statue of Liberty. Many of the houses in Lyon date from the 16^th /17^th century when silk spinning, banking and printing made the city prosperous. Lyon is the 2^nd largest city in France (as long as you don’t ask someone from Marseilles).

Our tour of Lyon was very interesting – some of the highlights included the paintings on the walls and our walking tour which took us through these very unique interior passage ways. You’ll also note that Lyon has a “mini Eiffel Tower”.

We are 2 hours from the French Alps, 2 hours from the Italian border and 2 hours from Paris – so this is a major hub for France. This evening we have 6:00 pm Happy Hour, 6:30 discussion on the French Presidential election and 7:00 dinner with Escargot with a French Fish Dinner … the dinner was great so I thought you’d like to see what we ate!

Lyon was a beautiful large city … that seemed small and easy to visit. It would be fun to come back to try some of the great restaurants here.
