Only you can prevent forest fires
From Mike and Meg's Honeymoon in Grand Canyon North Rim, United States on Jul 18 '07
Ok so as you have figured out I am trying to catch up on these damn journal logs. It has been a couple of days since we have had internet access or wanted to take time out of our fun to write. But we are back. For those of you who are sitting behind some desk at work and sneaking your browser window on your screen that reads "Mike and Meg's Honeymoon"...we are back. Well we left Vegas and our first stop was the Hoover Dam I pumped because we were going to see the one good thing that former president Herbert Hoover did during his administration..and began constructing the great damn. Well, as unimpressed with Herbert's administration as the American public was by the early 1930's, that was about the same impression the damn was on us. Meg and I both agreed that the damn did not look as cool and as big as it was on the movies and TV. It probably didn't help that it was 111 degrees with 20 mph winds. We moved on from our first dissapointing national monument and headed for the Grand Canyon. We arrived near the park and the closest cabin we could get to the park was 44 miles away from the North rim. Our cabin was pretty cool and decided to head to the rim the next day. The North rim was amazing as we arrived and looked over the side. The problem was that the wildfires near by again prevented a view that we had hoped for to see across the canyon. What we could see was amazing!! From there we headed to Bryce Canyon which is in Utah and although is a smaller canyon, we both agreed it was just as, if not more spectacular. It was a long day of driving but most of it well worth it for the some of the coolest views of the Western U.S. we have seen. We hope everyone is well back in the 'Cuse and elsewhere.
