Here we are in beautiful Strasbourg, France. Yeap, France. Not Germany. For some reason this city is classified as France, despite the fact that it's hard to buy French food here. The city is on the border of (you guessed it) Germany and is really quite a nice city.

We have a bias on the city, though, as the weather has been perfect everyday we've been here. That's rare in France. France's weather is actually very similar to Melbourne's. There is not, however, terribly much to do in Strasbourg. A beautiful, old cathedral and an area of old buildings called "Petite France". Beyond that there's not alot.

They've never heard that you can mix Gin and Vermouth together? Bah humbug!

So what do you do in on a beautiful day, in a beautiful city with not much to do? You hire a bike! Elena and I hired a bike each and rode around the island that encompasses the old city. Now, I'm not a seasoned bike-guy. In fact, I'm about as bad as they come. After a wobbly start, we were on our way and I never managed to crash (doesn't mean I didn't look like an ass tho).

<rant>I have one gripe I'd like to throw in at this point - this post is, after all, short so this is probably the best time: France has no idea what a Martini is. That's. Just. Wrong. They have everything else (Margarita, Mojito, etc) except Martini's. They don't even know what Vermouth is! I know, I know: "You can't expect them to have drinks from other peoples cultures". Blah, blah, blah. So they can have Quick F**ks, Hardons, Orgasms and every other crudely named shot under the face of the sun, but they've never heard that you can mix Gin and Vermouth together? Bah humbug!</rant>

A typical French meal in Strasbourg... wait, what?

Despite my rant, the bar we went to on our first night was actually quite good. Although I'm not too much of a fan of the European way of bars... you are given a table and you order drinks by flagging down the waitor. At least it removes the need to line up at a bar, but where's the social interaction? Seems very segregated to me; but what would I know, I'm just a craaaazy Australian.

If i'd known you were going to go there I would have given you his email! Make sure you go to Normandy (Rouen-where Joan of Arc was matyred) and Metz cause it's so pretty. I hate you both! xxoo
