This is going to be a very short entry, as I just completed the entire blog and then lost it all. Grrrr!!

We arrived late on our first day so only really had one full day of sightseeing in Lyon. This was enough time though. Lyon is very pretty with a beautiful old town. Its actually the second biggest city in France after Paris.

Next stop, Switzerland!

We went on another hop on-off bus tour in Lyon (surprise, surprise). It took us up the hill that overlooks Lyon, where the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere is situated... as well as a TV tower that looks exactly like a mini Eiffel Tower!

The Fourviere was my favourite church in Europe so far. It had beautiful mosaics and paintings inside, and a really peaceful atmosphere. We spent a while just sitting inside taking it all in.

We also saw some old Roman theatre ruins. Lyon was founded by the Emperor Claudius and used to be called Lugdunum... takes me back to ancient history at school!

We had a nice lunch of Lyon specialties at a little bakery in the old town on the river. It was a pastry filled with ham, cheese and spinach... yum! We also bought some local sweets which were basically marzipan coated in fruit flavoured topping and sugar. Richard was a fan!
